Do I need to be in shape to join?
Absolutely not. At Rise Combat Sports, our job is to help you reach your goals, whatever they are. We are here to get you in shape, teach you great technique, and push you to your limits.
Do I need experience to start?
No. We will teach you everything you need to know. We have programs for beginners to professional fighters.
Can I try a class before I join?
Yes. Just give us a call and we can schedule a lesson today. We will have all the equipment needed for your first day. We are very confident that you will love it!
Is this sport for all ages?
Definitely. One of the great things about boxing, muay thai, jiu jitsu and m.m.a. is that anyone can do it! The moves are basic and easy to learn. Unlike some martial arts and sports, you do not have to be flexible to master the techniques.
Do you have all women classes?
Yes. We have a women’s Muay Thai (kickboxing) class on Mondays and Thursdays at 6pm-7pm. This class is taught by Jen Richardson. The class structure is the same as the co-ed classes but only for the ladies. Of course, women can take any class on the schedule if they prefer. Women train as hard and excel as quickly as the men!!!
I don’t want to fight; can I still join and not get hurt?
Of course. All of our classes will get you in shape and you never have to fight. The classes are designed so that you are primarily hitting and kicking pads that your partner holds or a heavy bag. If at a later date you would like to begin sparring, that is entirely up to you. Many people train for years and never opt to spar.
What equipment do I need to join?
We have everything for sale in our pro shop. You will need wraps and gloves to join boxing and muay thai and a Gi for jiu jitsu.
Why should I join Rise Combat Sports as opposed to another gym?
In the age of the big cooperate gym; we keep both our gyms small and personal (with ability to expand the facility, in time.) We give everyone personal attention and make everybody feel welcome. Our gym is family owned and operated, so we care deeply about the success of our business! Our trainers are legitimate and we teach real technique.
I have kids, do you provide childcare?
We don’t have childcare in the gym, but we do have available options for busy parents who want to train. If your kids are old enough, they are welcome to sit on the benches and watch your class (or do homework, etc.). We also have an available nanny-share where you can drop off your kids (about 2 minutes away.) If you are interested in learning more about this option, call Jen @ 415-519-3250.
